When should you start playing with your newborn?
From the first moment you hold your newborn, you connect with their senses. They look at your face, hear your voice, feel the warmth of your skin. These simple connections are the beginning of what can count as "play" in the early newborn days.
During the first month or so, your baby's interest may seem limited to eating, sleeping, and pooping. But when you make a toy scream or sneeze, you'll see them startle and turn their head toward the familiar voice.
It may be hard to imagine, but by the second month they are laying on their stomachs and lifting their heads to look around. By the third month, you'll likely see a steady smile and hear sounds that sound like they're trying to communicate with you.
