All children often bump their heads, especially when they are babies or toddlers and learning to roll over, crawl or walk. These accidents may make you nervous, but your anxiety is usually worse than the injury. Most head injuries in children are minor.
Head injuries are more common in children than in adults. Compared to adults:
Young children and adults alike cannot control their head movements.
Their head is large compared to their body.
Their neck muscles are not well developed.
Young children's legs are relatively short in proportion to the rest of their body. This puts a child's center of gravity closer to the head than an adult's center of gravity.Young children are more prone to injury or falls when learning new skills such as walking, running, and jumping.Bumps, cuts and scrapes on the head and face usually heal well and can be treated in the same way as injuries to other parts of the body. A superficial cut on the scalp often bleeds profusely because the skin of the face and scalp has many blood vessels close to the surface. This bleeding is dangerous, but most of the time the injury is not serious and you can stop the bleeding with home treatments.

When a high-energy injury occurs, it is even more important to assess the child for signs of serious head injury.
